RE: Which Linux OS for VPS?
CentOS is most common for Servers.
CentOS 5 is more used for compatibility (because their is a 6 but it's new).
As people are only using low amounts of CPU and Memory, there is no point using 64 bit versions as the only real advantage is increased performance.

CentOS 5 32bit strongly recommended.
Ubuntu Server is pretty cool too, but you'll find more examples / software / support for CentOS server issues.

Choose whatever you like. It's all pretty much just personal preference. Though some software is only officially supported on certain distros (i.e. cpanel) so you may want to take that into account.

CentOS is the unofficial standard for servers though, I'm sure that's one of the reason people use it.

They are working on it. Its supposed to come out in a few months according to developers, but who knows if it will. That'll bit a bit weird though, running openvz in openvz

I would choose CentOS 5, but as said, it's all personal preference.
