RE: How to creat thread
What you are referring to, are individual categories of the forum. This cannot be done by normal users - ones that do not have access to the moderation / administration panel. Only administrators or moderators can open new sub-forums in which users can open individual threads.
However, you can open a thread of your own and tell the collaborators to post their messages with unique message titles by going to the "New Reply" page and manually entering those instead of "Re: Thread name".

I personally do not believe that Internet Relay Chat is enough of an important topic for a VPS forum to have it's own sub-forum.

Opinion on Importance
You are welcome. To prevent a misunderstanding, I shall state that any user experience or tutorial on the matter of IRC for sure is requested on this forum and important as well to those who would like to deploy thier own IRC servers, however each of these recommendations, tutorials or opinions can be posted in one thread - there is no need for opening a new sub-forum in practical reasons.

Therefore, I suggest you rename this thread to "IRC Talk" or osmething similar by editing your first message in it.
Then, try switching the thread view by using the "Threaded View | Linear View" selector in the right upper corner and you will see I posted this message with a different title in regard to it's content. You can split the topic to issues by that way.

Now, not to stay off-topic: for how long have you been using IRC until now? In what channels and on what servers did you participate? Don't you believe it is obsolete? Why not? Are there any new clients with additional features?

I have been using IRC more than 5 years. My channel #HamBurGer on uIRC Network. I don't think IRC is obsolete cause I still seen a lot of people like to chat on it. On Freenode Network There are a lot of help channel with all topic even Music.
I really like IRC. Smile
