Probably he is searching for members for his new group and wants to speak with everyone who has applied in private.
I'd also would do it in private instead of leaving the topic open for spam like "i want to join" or so. |

I want to receive a message in private because I don't like spam messages on one post with the same post saying that they want to join it will just fill up one page for no reason while they could be asking questions
