RE: What type of music do you listen?
It amazes me how one genres day by day gets new "subgroups", usually with funny names
I stream most of my music from radio, as said before, and Grooveshark.com ... |

RE: What type of music do you listen?
Youtube is just fine for me right now. I don't use any radio streaming.
![]() Metal is the genre with the most sub genres. I will name the most famous. heavy, thrash, power, black, death, doom, groove, Gothic, symphonic, progressive, nu metal, etc. Each of those has their own couple of sub genres. @Murder We have some similarities. I like trance, psy trance, techno, house etc. I've heard of Goa psy but never knew who plays that . Is it a group named Goa and later it became Goa psy trance or what. Sometimes I use wikipedia but I used it mostly on metal and read articles about metal.

I used to be into them a lot more when they still had their old singer however. Their albums are pretty epic. I do like the classics. I like early Iron Maiden with their first singer, Paul Di'Anno, but I'm not really into their stuff with Bruce Dickinson (Blasphemy, I know. I do think he is an amazing singer however) Judas Priest, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Rush, Black Sabbath, etc are all pretty awesome and I do listen to them every now and again. I always tend to stay in the borders of soul, jazz, funk or electronica with occasional jumps rock but my musical path still is evolving - mainly through listening to different world-wide radio stations. Alternative or unsigned / uknown artists are the key to get my musical attention which is why I choose to listen to smaller local (LPFM) or alternative student radio stations. I used to listen to a lot of radio and do listen to it every now and again I am in the car, but the radio stations where I live suck. The only really good stations are the student radio stations, but they only play the music I like in the early morning (past 2 am). During the daytime its mostly multicultural stuff. Me and friends have been tempted to make a pirated radio station, but it is illegal and too easy to track down these days. With the stuff that we would play, they would want us off the air as soon as possible. I think the only real way to do it would be to have an array of small transmitters everywhere, but that is costly. |

RE: What type of music do you listen?
Why don't you put the transmitter on a bus that revolves round the area you live? You could also use a helium-filled balloon that could be tied in a pole.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. |

Their albums are pretty epic. Nighwish is great when Tarja was there. Let's not start Tarja vs Anette kind of discussion but now this pop metal they play is not so appealing to me. I still like to listen to old song because they are such a great symph metal. And the bands that you mentioned here are the foundation of everything that came later. For example the whole leather clothes and bikes thing in metal was first introduced by the Judas Priest. And I don't want to write what did the others do because it would take to much time. As for Di'Anno, he was good singer I like his version of the song Killers, Iron Maiden, Phantom in the Opera but Bruce is Bruce. Also Bruce and Bono are the two only singers who came to my country when things were tough here (war). Shells were falling when Bruce was here but he still came. So Bruce, fu*k yeah.

Because they regularly do maintenance on the buses and I wouldn't be able to attach an high powered transmitter to a bus. Even if I could, there's also the issue of transmitting the information to the transmitter. I guess using a 3G or LTE or whatever device would work, but they could trace everything back through the sim card. I had a similar idea to your helium-filled balloon idea; Attaching it to a tall tree in a forest close to where I live. That gets rid of the problem of sending data to the transmitter, but the big issue is getting power to it. A generator would be too expensive to keep running and I don't want to steal power from a neighbor or something since that would piss me off if it happened to me. Yes, I am terrible at being a pirate. I did talk to a guy on IRC who said that back in the 80s they stole power from traffic lights/outdoor lights to broadcast their pirate station, so that may be a possibility. @vwchox Fun fact, Halford just wore what was popular in the British gay scene on stage. He was hiding that he was gay at the time however. I hope you get some more shows now. I'm sure Bruce and Bono put on good shows, but small shows are even more fun than big ones imo. |

Since you don't want to steal power is it possible to somehow use solar collectors on a balloon. Or possibly make the whole balloon a solar collector. ![]() (03-30-2012 08:25 AM)f8ll Wrote: @vwchox Yeah I saw the documentary about rock music. In part where there was talk about metal scene they mention that. Bruce said they saw that and they though of that as so manly and copied it. They didn't know about his off stage life at that time. You are right about the small shows. I don't know of many but only for Whitesnake's tour in Tokyo. With acoustic guitar it was really really good. What about hard rock? Do people here like it? I loved metal but I heard this guy from Croatia. His cover of classic hard rock songs was great. And I didn't even know about this song and the whole history of hard rock behind it. Check it out. ![]() And just to conclude this long post I'll tell you this. The guy who judged those player is great lead guitar player who was asked to join Whitesnake in his prime years but (for reasons known to him) he refused.

Commercial radio stations have power amps that are in the KW range. That said I could probably get ~15kms with your suggestion provided the balloon is high enough since the land is fairly flat here, which is better than nothing. Solar cells have come a long way in the past few years. Though the efficient ones are expensive. (03-30-2012 08:58 AM)vwchox Wrote: What about hard rock? Do people here like it? Great. Can someone explain in their own words what is the difference between metal and hard rock?
