Yes. You could do that. All 64 bit is (to me at least) is for more performance with memory.

RE: 32bit or 64bit
It depends. For some applications, 64-bit will be faster, for others, 32-bit will be faster. It won't be a significant difference though. Also, fyi you can use more than 4gb of ram on a 32-bit OS with PAE.

RE: 32bit or 64bit
if you are using java, and you need more than 1.5 gb of ram, you are going to have to use 64 bit.

RE: 32bit or 64bit
I would suggest 32 Bit, compatible with most programs.

RE: 32bit or 64bit
I feel that 32bit works best under 512MB RAM sometimes even up to 1024MB. After that, I always opt for 64bit.

RE: 32bit or 64bit
i would say go with 32 bit Ubuntu server simply because you don't have enough ram
there is not much difference between 32 and 64 bit as long as your ram memory is less than 3 GB at around 4 GB 32 bit saves some memory for hardware mapping whereas 64 bit utilizes the entire memory and thus efficient memory usage

RE: 32bit or 64bit
I would suggest also to research about what application/services you are planning to run on your server, if all of them have a well developed 64bit version or maybe some are just developed to run on 32bit system, considering these will help you decide if 32 or 64 bit will be ideal for your system.

Thanks FreeVPS.us! for the free VPS and for all the knowledge that I've learned here at the forum.
