RE: GreenOS - A FreeBSD based distro for android devices!
I'd recommend NetBSD over FreeBSD for ARM. Their port is somewhat more complete, but it still is nothing compared to Linux's port.

By replace android do you mean port the userland to FreeBSD? If so, you'll have to use Dalvik VM.

If you don't use Dalvik VM, you aren't exactly replacing Android, you are just making another Mobile OS.

I'm curious about your project though. Sounds interesting.

I highly suggest you commit your changes to FreeBSD's upstream so everyone can benefit from your development Smile

Yes, i know, but NetBSD is a FreeBSD fork......after i public my first beta, i'll hope that i find a good team to port Dalvik VM to Green OS and a modified version of Wine...

No its not. It's directly derived from 386BSD, which FreeBSD is as well. Even if it was a fork, they would be entirely different as both OSs started off in the early 90s. They are very different beasts.

If you looking to port Dalvik VM, check out freebroid's work on it.

How would you go about installing this? AFAIK there isn't a USB port on Android devices.

I'm confusing it with PC-BSD, LOL

From what I have experienced you can use SD/microSD/microSDHC cards when your device has support for SD/microSD/microSDHC cards.

I have flashed my LG GT540 via ClockworkMod Recovery to a custom Android ROM (SWIFTDROID SECOND LIFE which is Android 2.3.7) from my microSDHC and it went fine. The process was quite fast for flashing a 136MB .zip file to the internal phone ROM.

Most phones, tablets and Android netbooks or other devices should have SD/microSD/microSDHC or USB support.

Yea, I agree with you Murder. But I'd prefer the Android OS. It just works natively. THe problem with this port is that you can't be sure your apps will work 100%.

Spam? What do you mean by spam? I need free host!

Every android device has a USB port. A lot of them use it for charging, but they can all be used in host or slave mode

To use the micro USB slot as host you would need an adapter and they aren't easy to get and you need perhaps an xtra power supply for the host because the micro usb slot hasn't a lot of power.

You shouldn't need an adapter. http://developer.android.com/guide/topic.../host.html
It is possible to do in older android versions as well with a few patches.
