sub domain web server
is it possible to run a game server on a subdomain website. the site uses linux and i want to run a server so my friends and i can play together leg-free.

Because you need to run executables to run the server daemon. You are not going to be allowed to do that with shared hosting.

oh, i get it, the server doesn't want anyone to run programs on their server, i.e. run game servers on it, so they just block all executable files. that would explain why i could never get it to work. probably because it is free, or actually, because it is free, they wont let you do anything to their server. just wondering, what's a daemon, and why does it look like its spelled correctly. and yes i know thats how you spell it.

Even if you paid for shared hosting, you still wouldn't be allowed to run executables, that's not the idea behind it.

A daemon is basically a background process http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daemon_%28c...oftware%29
