Specification update for VPS 3, 4 & 18
#1
Dear FreeVPS Directory & Discussion Community & VPS 18 Owners,

Unfortunately we had to downgrade the specifications of VPS 18 due to certain circumstances and resource shortage on our side. Some of you may have noticed this already in the last giveaway (before the giveaway of this month!).

Instead of 1 GB RAM the VPS has received only 512 MB RAM and 512 MB vSwap. We've created the VPSs as we always did but since the last months the setup seems to have changed (probably because of SolusVM updates or something else - we don't know). Creating the VPSs with the same settings as before results in VPSs with 512 MB RAM and 512 MB vSwap.

We've done calculations to see whether we can change the setup to provide 35 VPS 18's with 1 GB RAM. It is impossible because we lack necessary resources for this move. Adding more resources is unfortunately not an option! It would cost us a lot of money and would make the service unaffordable.

VPS 18 new specifications (already update on your VPS Info & Req page):
  • 50 GB disk space
  • 1 TB monthly traffic
  • 512 MB RAM & 512 MB vSwap
  • 1x IPv4 & 1x IPv6 addresses

Some of the recent VPS 18s already have these specifications. Old VPS 18s have the old specifications with 1 GB RAM and no vSwap. From now on all VPS 18s will be created with the new specifications as we have no other option.

Thank you very much for your understanding and sorry for the caused inconvenience.

Kindest Regards

FreeVPS Directory & Discussion Administration

VPS 3 and 4 also have received a specification update for the same reason:

VPS 3 & 4 new specs:
128 MB RAM & 128 MB vSwap
10 GB HDD
500 GB BW
1x IPv4 & 1x IPv6
VPS 3 in LA, CA, U.S and VPS 4 in CL, NC, U.S

for some reason found that OVZ swap calculation is like this :
VSwap is calculated from the amount of burst memory you add to a virtual server. For example, if you specify 512MB Ram and 1024MB Burst the VSwap would be 512MB (1024MB - 512MB = 512MB).

That is correct. However in all the years before it was way different, atleast on Hostigation. The value of Burst/vSwap was used as the new memory limit allowing us to allocate more real RAM to the VPS.

This is impossible now and it's back to how it normally should be as you explained.

So, all the vps 18 will be having 512 mb ram , but without any data loss ? Like in ny other physical machine, just replace 1 gb ram stick by 512 mb ram stick in the slot ?

Old VPS 18s that were made before these changes come in place still have 1 GB RAM until they get removed (someone maybe didn't make up posts, etc..).

VPSs from the last and this months giveaway have these new specifications already and VPSs created in future giveaways will have these new specifications.

no, not likely, on a vps it's not like a pc changing the slot stick, all these are virtual on the main node. so as HR explained about the old vps and upcoming giveaway, it shall hereon be like this.

I'm sure the recipients can appreciate it either way as they are receiving a Free VPS and should be grateful.

Hopefully this will be profitable for the FreeVPS community.
I was old VPS 18 user.
Actually only on Hostigation VPSs (which are being paid by the community) specifications will be downgraded.
Well...
Hello there!
