Old users are grandfathered in though.

True.  Although I didn't know about the paid option.  I thought there was only one option which was the free VestaCP option, and then one could ask for an upgrade.  So I guess then the upgrade must be paid.

Must say after getting to know the basics of VestaCP - like it's got a few hurdles to work through - I'm happier with VestaCP as it's much lighter on resources, hence much faster than cPanel or DirectAdmin.  It's my fastest shared hosting account by far.  Whoever set it up, did an excellent job for speed.

I think even if Joe reintroduces the cPanel shared hosting option I'll stick with VestaCP.  I've learned to really like it.  I also like the sub-domain, like it's name.clouded.us.  One of my favourite shared accounts.

I've tried an account with Afreecloud - it's actually run by a member from LowEndTalk by the name of KuJoe.

He's a great guy who runs a great service (one of my websites on his service run with nearly 100% uptime and I might consider upgrading to the paid plan)

Might be the be-all and the end-all here,
But here, upon this bank and shoal of time,
We'ld jump the life to come."

Rest in peace, FreeVPS. The forum will be sorely missed.

Yep, he's the same guy behind SecureDragon (which AFAIK FreeVPS.us runs on Cheese)

I would love to see their interworx hosting come back, I've never used IWX before Sad

I have registered and applied for a free web hosting. I think it would be better if they had given 2GB or 5GB disk space instead. I am asking this out of wonder but is MYSQL remote allowed?

The idea as far as I understand is for someone who needs more than one domain to upgrade to the next level of the VestaCP free hosting account.  Like one can only have one domain with the basic account.  For a single domain 1GB is probably enough.  Upgrade is so cheap may be worth doing.

I checked my VestaCP on aFreecloud and only localhost is available for selection when one creates a database.  So looks as though mySQL remote is not allowed in the basic account.  I'm almost certain if you should upgrade you could ask for Joe to set you up with remote mySQL option.  There is a ticket system you could use once you've signed up for the free basic account, or you could make an inquiry in the Forum before you decide to upgrade.

@Lux  I thought I should bring you up to date if you aren't already up to date with afreecloud.  This is one of my free shared hosting accounts I've always treasured because (a) it's hosted by Joe Dougherty previous Admin of Webhostingtalk and owner of Secure Dragon (b) Joe used VestaCP instead of cpanel for the free hosting accounts.  At the time when I joined his service in July 2016 I was on a HUGE learning curve with VestaCP and completely taken by the fact that he'd created a free hosting service with VestaCP panel instead of cpanel.  Notwithstanding the fact that his servers were located completely outside my ISP hub, this hosting experience was and still is of the fastest I've had so far.  Think currently only surpassed by Lampard's Limitlesshost.net.

Towards October last year I picked up in afreecloud Forum Joe was getting frustrated with VestaCP because he couldn't make free Let's Encrypt work with all of the accounts.  I think that must have dampened his spirits a little apart from being very busy with a million other things and when I tried to log into the Forum yesterday found this message in his closed Forum:

Quote:AFreeCloud Forums This bulletin board is currently closed. The Administrator has specified the reason as to why below.

Due to a number of ongoing issues with VestaCP I have decided to no longer offer new services using that platform. Unfortunately, migrating to a new platform (such as cPanel) will require a lot of work and a substantial financial investment so I need to wait until I have more time to properly plan out any form of changes. All current services will remain online at this time and I will re-open the forums and provide an announcement once I have a plan of action ready to share.

I find it very generous of Joe to keep the hosting accounts alive of existing customers.  I don't know how to contact him, but if you have any contact with him could you please thank him for an excellent and very interesting and enjoyable experience at the same time.

@deanhills If you make an account on LowEndTalk, you can send him a PM. He’s relatively active over on LET, so yeah Smile
