Proxy Server
#1
I was developing my game server and planning to add a proxy server to hide my real IP from attackers such as DDoS and other attack attempts. I just want to ask how to make a proxy server for my game server.

Simply, you can't. The only way to protect your server from DDoS is buying an anti DDoS service from any hosting company.

But isn't some providers offer a free DDoS protection when you avail there services?

You can buy a DDoS protected service like a VPS or a dedicated server and use it as a GRE proxy or VPN. With port forwarding you can then make it possible for people to access the server you have on the unprotected server over the protected IP address without leaking the IP of the unprotected server. This requires advanced knowledge in networking and system setups.

Why don't you buy service from a provider that already comes with DDoS protection like OVH or BuyVM?

I do this with my VPS. @HR's suggestion is the best though.

you can just setup a some iptables rules.

Here is for TCP: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/t...h-iptables
For UDP, just modify the rules slightly.
Some links for UDP:

You won't be able to see the IP Addresses of the users on the server this way though. The VPS that port forwards is just like a router this way.

Having a proxy without a firewall under the hood is useless. If you do not posses decent networking knowledge I would recommend you to get a VPS from the providers that offer DDOS protection.

I recommend using CloudFlare for DDoS protection I have some experience in DDoS attacks on websites as I have been an owner of a four letter domain for a couple of years with 10000-50000 visitors per month ... good times then, anyway, CF free plans is best if your group is small , otherwise, you can always upgrade Smile
