[VPS] VPS 4 Review
#1
I recently got a VPS from HOST4FUN on which I was using for testing docker programs which I figured I will write a review on.

VPS 4 has KVM virtualization with 50GB disk space and 1GB memory and 1TB monthly traffic on a 1GB/s connection and one IPv4 and no IPv6

The specs are rather good for my uses, I use around ~700 MB of ram usually which is I limit by controlling software, The Disk I/O could be better but It's acceptable by me.

ALL TESTS DONE ON A FRESH DEBIAN (8) OS

Benckmarks:
Code:
Full benchmark log: /root/bench.log

System Info
-----------
Processor    : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E3-1231 v3 @ 3.40GHz
CPU Cores    : 1
Frequency    : 3392.144 MHz
Memory        : 1000 MB
Swap        : 2047 MB
Uptime        : 15:13,

OS        : Debian GNU/Linux 8
Arch        : x86_64 (64 Bit)
Kernel        : 3.16.0-4-amd64
Hostname    : mw.nut.cc

Speedtest (IPv4 only)
---------------------
Your public domain is mw.nut.cc

Location        Provider    Speed
CDN            Cachefly    20.5MB/s

Atlanta, GA, US        Coloat        1.45MB/s
Dallas, TX, US        Softlayer    1.67MB/s
Seattle, WA, US        Softlayer    2.53MB/s
San Jose, CA, US    Softlayer    2.01MB/s
Washington, DC, US    Softlayer     5.72MB/s

Tokyo, Japan        Linode        2.07MB/s
Singapore         Softlayer    2.04MB/s

Rotterdam, Netherlands    id3.net        5.04MB/s
Haarlem, Netherlands    Leaseweb    26.3MB/s

Disk Speed
----------
I/O (1st run)    : 23.7 MB/s
I/O (2nd run)    : 27.3 MB/s
I/O (3rd run)    : 27.9 MB/s
Average I/O    : 26.3 MB/s

For some reason, the network speed appears to be worse than a mobile while the server has a 1GB/s connection
The Disk speed obviously could be better but it hasn't caused any major problems... yet.

The speed test from Paris shows good results:

I hosted an apache web server temporarily on my VPS although the RAM usage went through the roof, The web site loaded pretty quickly (even better with mod_pagespeed).

Performance-wise it was OK since I could add/remove SWAP at any time.

The HOST4Fun control panel was a bit bugged (it refused to log in on mobile) but apart from that it was rather easy to set the thing up, they still lack the ubuntu 16.04 x86_64 ISO at the time of writing, however.

Reliability wise, I think that this VPS is best used with a CDN and a cache for web hosting otherwise it's pretty reliable.

I currently use my VPS for docker projects and docker OSes and docker in dockers Smile

The hard drive space is very good for normal usage and I have never had a problem with it (as in storage space).

I feel that the Disk I/O could be better but I assume that would be very hard for the providers to do.

I think that this a great VPS and I would definitely recommend this VPS to all users.

I am not going to give a rating but the reader summarise by this post.

Thanks for reading.

What is mean by *custom swap ? How much you can set it up to?
Well my i/o speed is similar, I like that cpu frequency.

It's a KVM. You can set swap to however you like, but you loose that much disk space.

@Abdul Sami VPS 4 has KVM virtualization which allows for hardware virtualization.
I can change the kernel and swap space whenever I want/need.

I can set the swap up to the total disk space I am allotted,

The FreeVPS bench.sh uses MHz, not GHz, please note that.

I always use KVM VPSes because of the kernels actually since KVM allows me to upgrade to a newer kernel and install docker which is right on top of my MUST HAVE list although most people don't have a use for docker.

That's so good,

actually 3.4GHz but nevermind.
I can set the swap to 49GB (using 49GB of space) if the post-install OS takes up 1GB for a total disk limit of 50GB.

however, setting the swap to a stupid amount wont increase performance instead it may have a adverse affect.
most people shouldn't need KVM, I only require it due to my special uses.

My old VPS 6 will be in this month's giveaway (Jan 2017) so you could trade in VPS 14

I'll change it for my VPS 18. (But i like vps 18 because of it's performance)

Which one should I get for running a game server and a voice server? I need something that has quite a bit of ram and something in the North America region.

you can get a good VPS18 for small gameservers,

VPS 4 is also a great option for gameservers & vo-ip.
