Hmm, not using any free shared hosting, most of them are crap, some is not stable at all, they mostly put ads on the site, leak infos, and gets down due to problem in maintaining, I never host any important data on shared hosting at all.
Well for freehosting, I am curious why no one suggested hostinger. Hostinger is pretty good in terms of free hosting. I think you should give them a try.
Before obtaining my VPS, I frequently utilized x10Hosting for hosting websites built on Wordpress. My personal opinion is that their hosting is usually reliable and will meet the needs if you need to host a basic website.
For now I'm hosting all my web apps on vps. ( not heavy one ) but before that x10hosting or 000webhost were the top one on google results, so I think people also tried those one too much.
When I used to build small HTML websites (some Pages written in HTML) coupled with the free top level domain .tk back in the school, I used 000webhosting then, but after their account leak I was skeptical about them, but now they look to be secure at least on their web page.
Right now I use my VPS form freevps.us for hosting the few projects that I am working on.
