[Shared Hosting] 1&1 Review
#1
Nowadays 1&1 is one of the most popular hosting company. They offer shared hosting with unlimited doamins/disk/bandwidth for only 12$ per year + free domain (after 1 year price is 8$ per month).
I am using this host more than 2 year and I am very satisfied. First of all they have perfect uptime, I have never seen that my website was offline. Speed is higher than average.
But this hosting has many disadvantages, for example Control Panel, they have their own panel, which is not as userfriendly as cPanel, everything is harder to find. You can't use different SSL certificates, like Let's Encrypt, you must buy from 1and1 (You are able to use cloudflare certificate only). If you buy other product, for example SSL certificate and didn't pay for it more than 1 month, they will suspend whole account SSL + hosting + domain.
And finally price, for first year it's really best offer you can get for 12$, but after that period price becomes much higher than it should be.
I will give this host 3/5 stars.

I am confused, for one month you wrote the prize as 12$/month.

For year 12$?
Between I don't trust unlimited?
How much disk you used at maximum until now.
And well they suspend whole account for not paying a service, that does not look interesting.

$12/month, no thanks. I better go with siteground.
Maybe it's $12/first year as a promotion (like namecheap's $9/1st year, $38 succeeding years), $8/month next?

What? Are you saying that it's not okay for a company to suspend (if not terminate) your account for not paying?

They have the right to close your account anyway; it's in their legal terms anyway.

I personally do not like 1&1, due to their terrible domain transfer process - I was required to email support and wait a week before I received a response, and another to receive an EPP code with my domain unlocked.
And when I thought they authorized the transfer, they didn't, and I was 3 steps away from calling their phone number!
Eventually, it was let through and it was moved to my favorite registrar, NameSilo Smile

Ah, and don't get me started about their super "instant" DNS changes...

Rest in peace, FreeVPS. The forum will be sorely missed.

I'm not a huge fan of 1&1's services, they provide all of these so-called "unlimited" plans and in reality, it really isn't unlimited. Their support can be somewhat of a pain and they take a while to get things done for you. I'm not sure if you're planning on staying with 1&1, but if they treat you well and the service continues to be alright for you then I don't see a reason why you should cancel your service. But seeing that the price is going to go higher, I would drop them before they charge you a higher rate.

You could be saving more money by switching to other providers and not sign up for these unlimited plans. Not everyone needs unlimited and unlimited isn't always unlimited.

If you don't pay your bill, I would expect your services to be cut off as like any other provider out there. Especially 1&1.

Namecheap sometimes has promotions for shared hosting. One year hosting is just 1 US dollar.

That may be a harsh deal towards the customer if he accidently repeat the order or unable to complete payment due to problem in payment methods, it happens sometime, between I still don't believe in this idea of account suspension instead of unpaid service suspension.

I've looked around on this site (1&1). It seems they have good deals, but I can't find an acceptable use policy. I see they also have three months of a Dedicated Server for free. I looked at it, and it seems reasonable. The only drawback for me would be the $49 setup fee.

I thought they give 3 month free only if you buy 1 year forward. You still have to pay for 9 month, prices are higher than usual, I doesn't cost it.
