I would guess that the access credentials for root were never changed. However I'd like confirmation from @coreyman to be sure

Welp... I can't say I'm too disappointed because this was in line with my expectations, but I still can't help but sigh at this. hope it serves as a good lesson.

When it comes to things like forum I believe too many people never should given core level access and permissions. Things like root access shouldn't be given to anyone. If it's given then those permissions should be revoked as soon as possible in a situation like removing an Admin. I remember something worse then this happened to a sponsor here few months ago.

Well these guys said they were down for running the community when I said I was ready to call it quits, how could they run it without access to change things? @Ignis used to complain all the time when he was a moderator that he didn't have access to change or fix anything. Hidden_Refuge has access to things on this website. You never know who you can trust until someone breaks that trust. We had a backup and didn't lose anything.

I was thinking the exact same thing, but this is also the reason why I said that there shouldn't be any more effort spent on it. He said that he got everything back which means that the data has been overwritten. The chances of recovering the files was on the hard drive were small to begin with.
Thank you ZXPlay and FreeVPS for my VPS 7

Ya... figured that it probably is overwritten by now.  At least there were backups meaning made so it was just the time lost to restoring it.

@coreyman

What you seemed to understand before the reboot of the site: don't take unnecessary chances. However, since you took precautions with backups and such, I guess it's not a big issue.
