Can you setup a trial for one day.

ECC RAM is a higher stability version of RAM than non-ECC RAM. It tends to be slower due to the features that give it its stability, and is also more expensive. Usually used for mission-critical applications only for this reason.

its more sluggish than the ram in your desktop typically.

Well, the only real benefit is that it's practically error-free in every aspect, used for scientific and medical research.
It's really for applications that require the most stability and least errors, and so solar flares, etc, don't actually affect the ECC memory.
I'm not going to be that person who throws up another signature which displays my posts for the month. My goal is to be active enough to reach the post requirements without staring at a counter thinking, "Great! I'm done my posts, I can log off until next month."

when it comes to cpu or storage, you would not have performance issues. when it comes to memory - well that all depends on what you are running and the amount they consume. usually that is something you would know
if you already have existing server(s). you can check their usage and go from there.
