Cheap Domains
#21
Well there's Namecheap's 48 cent promo that was named above, or try Alibaba Cloud which offers the first domain registration for 17 cents for .win, .men, .loan, and .bid. Seems like renewals are at a buck atm, but I'm not sure if it'll stay that way...

There's a class of domain names where the domain name is simply 6 to 9 digits (e.g. "123456789.xyz") which costs $0.99 to renew as can be seen here. I get the impression that this pricing should be available at all .xyz domain registrars but in reality some (e.g. GoDaddy and Hostinger) have it and others (e.g. NameCheap) don't. For reference, I checked by adding a domain to the cart, then go to the cart page to choose the number of years and look at the price.

Just because a company is a web hosting provider doesn't mean that they can't be a domain registrar as well. In this case, you can see Hostinger listed as a domain registrar (under "Europe" heading) on the website of .xyz registry operator

Fun fact: apparently an early version of .xyz domain name policy (see archived link) contains this clause

Quote:Abusive use of a domain is described as an illegal, disruptive, malicious, or fraudulent actionand includes, without limitation, the following:
  • ...
  • illegal, malicious and fraudulent defamation of Oprah Winfrey, Daniel Negari, or Justin Bieber
  • ...

Thanks for that tip - I'll check up on the renew prices as well. I was completely unaware of this practise.

This is also news to me. I thought Hostinger would have been an affiliate. As some hosts are affiliates - not always registrars. Good to know thanks. :y:

I think alpnames.com is best for domain names, they sell almost every domain, with cheapest price, plus they always have discounts.

some have .99 first year and then 40$ renewal afterwards.

Try domain transfer offers if your current provider charges higher on renewal.

Thanks for the share!  I could use a .net domain preferably from them.  Remember last year when the site would just crash and I couldn't access it.  This year, it's a coupon based thing where you generate a code and you can checkout within 48 hours.  Will be completing the purchase a day later because refreshing and refreshing the site over and over again to try to checkout is not fun...  Does anyone know what time the sale starts (and what offers)?
