FREE antivirus for PC

Opendns + Winblows Defender is all you'll ever need. Opendns will filter the malware sites at the dns level, it can also filter unwanted crap like ads and such. You can enable various filters in your opendns account. It also works with dynamic ips.

Last I checked avg was almost a piece of malware itself. Ads all over the bloomin place. They may have changed though.

Yes I believe that's how they make it powerful but still free. Anyway I have disabled all possible notifications in setting. It works for me because I always want to disable all unnecessary functions in antivirus software to make them consume as little PC resource as possible.

Just manage your pc by yourself by finding out yourself which website can be dangerous for you, and download anything from trusted sources. I have not been using anti-virus since years now and it is really good.

But if you got some virus in your PC, then install some anti-virus, and then uninstall it later on. Thats what i do, anyways thats my own opinion.

I've heard (and experienced, in my old pc) that antiviruses slow down the computer as they always scan (well if real time protection is enabled) the computer and always have an open task in the background. What do you think about that?

@Ignis
About a year ago I've tried AVG Internet security paid version for a few months and even inside the paid version there were ads to upgrade to the most expensive version...

I've heard about OpenDNS before but didn't try it. I'll definitely check that out. Thank you!

That is true. I like to play games and i find anti virus very annoying and they slow down the computer. Even though if protection is disabled, they always slowed down the computer for me.

@markos4k you don't really need an antivirus to know about any network attack.

I am with @xaoc,
I use opendns and windows defender too on my windows 10.
I dont agree with @Lampard about not to use any antivirus.
even the most users who is very careful are vulnerable to viruses.
If majority of your work requires you to be online, better have protection first.
as they say, prevention is better than treatment..
Please excuse my English as this is not my native language.-20223
