[DISMISSED] VPS reviews for all VPSs

@deanhills

I'm not confident that an automated system would be able to distinguish quality reviews from long ones, and having staff members dole out rewards manually invites accusations of favoritism. as much as I wish the system could work, I simply can't see it happening.

I agree in theory that members should be given more points if they meet all guidelines for quality reviews. Because meeting those guidelines is really a time-consuming job. It will encourage members making quality posts for the forum. But it is difficult to implement a separate reward system here. Perhaps we can think about improving our reputation system for that purpose.

But I disagree to force all VPS owners to write VPS reviews now. Because it will force them to fill the VPS Reviews section with low-quality reviews. So, the number of low-quality reviews will increase and it is clearly not what we actually want to see.

I am sure that most of the users won't be able to create the review that how it should actually look like. Using some scripts to show the specifications, read/write speed, speed test, tested all in a single day with an intention of just creating a review because it is a requirement. Thats what actually the most users are gonna do. Yes, if it is not requirement then users can feel free to create a review anytime. I have seen the VPS reviews here and i would say that its not that bad. Though making it a requirement might welcome the "low quality reviews" which doesn't suit this forum. This is all that i have noticed from other places.

Moreover talking about giving a score to high quality review is also a long work for administrators, keeping a track etc would be very hard for them since they have a lot to do than this work.

If people are forced to do reviews, than a lot of low quality reviews would come in, we just all want to meet the requirement to keep our VPS. Reviews do get a lot of points for yourself, but I think something else could be included to attract incentive to make more reviews about the VPSs.
Thank you FreeVPS.us for VPS 18 and Evolution Host for VPS 6!

@Lampard

tracking and giving out point bonuses and such wouldn't be too difficult, I just worry about accusations of unfairness based on what happened during the rep debacle.

@Ignis

The reputation gig, well, I wasn't exactly happy about the fact that I lost maybe 10 reputation points.
If it were somehow possible, I'd limit the VPS reviews forum section to users who've been in the FreeVPS VPS owners' group for at least, say, 3 months. I'm sure there are plenty of ways to implement this, and I doubt it'd be too difficult.
Just wandering around, nothing more.

(Wow, it's been years and it took me this long to realize I had a typo in my signature :/)

to be honest this can be implemented, but throughout the recent time we noticed that reviews doesn't contain much information, most review i saw had only benchmarks, that's all. nothing special about it, on the other side it would be a really positive thing for the sponsors, this will be valuable to them as there's frequent reviews about what the sponsored here, thus using this for the development of their services. HR told some facts that happened here and he's right about it also. If we have to implement this, we will need to consider rewards, am already thinking about additional points for those who do a decent review. further discussion will be required on this. We will also have to put a guideline there how to make the correct review. there's already a couple of good example in the review section.

if you  implement more points for quality review than you will also have to implement less points than usual for bad reviews. ha ha. that is where the problem begins. again !!

Right.  Definitely an interesting point of view ..... haha indeed!   Laugh

Thanks for the feedback @Ignis.  Since the suggestion doesn't seem to be practically feasible from your and other experienced members and staff points of view, can you close this thread, many thanks.
