NEW RULE: About deleting threads and punishments
#21
So... now that the point system seems to be fixed i.e. points from deleted posts are removed (can anyone else confirm it by the way? Also, did anyone other than @Monad read my post about this?), I guess perhaps the "If you've made a thread but want it deleted for whatever reason, be sure to at least notify a staff member of this and the reason why. It'll save you a warning." in the original post need not apply anymore?

Well I think they fixed it, but someone should make a official statement about it.  Even when they haven't issued any warnings yet for this exploit, has anyone actually used it for their advantage?

@thirthy_speed
It's a pretty general rule, so that remains as well. Notifying us when you're breaking a rule for a good reason has always been around.

@IEpicDestroyer
We've seen examples of users actually using it to their advantage, yes. Not gonna name any names, obviously, but there are users that were very clearly aware of what they were doing.

Deleting a post is/was a violation only because it allows/allowed the user to keep the points from the deleted post. Now that @Monad has updated the plugin to a version that fixed the issue, I don't see how/why deleting a post would still be considered rule-breaking or that people would still be required to notify staff when deleting a post. Note that I specifically said "deleting a post" and not rule-breaking action in general.

I agree with @thirthy_speed. I can't see a reason why we can't unrestrictedly remove our own posts should one not like what they just posted. Unless the exploit still seems to be working, there's no real point of this rule anymore as the reason the rule was made is already gone. Maybe this rule should be reconsidered unless the exploit still works as of now.

The rule isn't about deleting posts, it's a general rule about exploiting the points system.

Let's take a peek at the new rule one more time:

Quote:Do not attempt to abuse or exploit the point system in any way. Abuse and exploitation includes but is not limited to any action that allows you to get more points than you should for a post. Staff reserves the right to determine what behavior is exploitative.

Like @Ignis said, it's a general rule about exploiting the system. There are plenty of ways to do this. As such, it's staying.

With that, I'm closing this thread before it devolves into a debate about technicalities. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me or any other staff member. We'll be happy to help you!
