YouTube was hacked and Titles of famous video songs were changed

YouTube was reportedly hacked and titles of famous video songs like "Despacito" and Shakira's songs were changed.

Vevo’s YouTube account appears to have fallen victim to hackers today, as a number of high-profile music videos have been defaced. The most-viewed YouTube video of all time, Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” disappeared from YouTube briefly after being defaced by hackers. The video’s image was altered and replaced with a masked gang holding guns (from Netflix show Casa de Papel), and the description was changed by hackers calling themselves Prosox and Kuroi’sh.[Read more]

Reality about this :- YouTube wasn't actually hacked. Hackers found exploit and was did text injection on video page and also they injected Thumbnails.

The screenshot below shows how the thumbnail was looking when it was hacked.

However, the videos were deleted for safety reasons but now the videos are back. Everything is back normal. This incident took place around 2 days ago.

Looks as though this kind of injection is here to stay - and it takes the whole protection level of social media to a higher level each time. At least with YouTube they have the whole backup of Google geeks and systems admin who must have almost immediately been able to figure out where the injection came from, and was able to sort it out. Must say kudos to YouTube for being so good at figuring out what happened.

It is funny that OP mentioned the following.
Quote:Hackers found exploit and was did text injection on video page and also they injected thumbnails.

When the original article nowhere mentioned this. It merely links to a Tweet of the "hacker" who says he used an automated script to change names of the videos. This doesn't mean there is an exploit and that anything has been injected. Infact the way how the Vevo account was breached hasn't been even confirmed! Vevo & Youtube are probably still investigating (atleast according to the article). It could have easily been a weak password on the Vevo account... or a Vevo staff has been keylogged, phished... whatever.

The only thing that Vevo could confirm was the amount of "defaced" videos from their catalogue and that they're working on restoring them.
Quote:Vevo can confirm that a number of videos in its catalogue were subject to a security breach today, which has now been contained,” says a Vevo spokesperson. “We are working to reinstate all videos affected and our catalogue to be restored to full working order. We are continuing to investigate the source of the breach.”

And this kind of "quality journalism" is really not good.
Quote:Reality about this :- YouTube wasn't actually hacked. Hackers found exploit and was did text injection on video page and also they injected Thumbnails.

So when a hacker found an exploit (not confirmed by Youtube) and used it to change text and set other thumbnails... that is what being called hacked is. You know what an exploit is?

Not the first time Vevo got hacked. On September last year, a hacker group OurMine leaked more than 3TB of Vevo's internal files. OurMine said they tried to tell a Vevo employee about it before leaking the files but got told to "F--- off". A Vevo spokesperson said that it happened because of a phishing scam on LinkedIn.

Yea, you are right. However, OurMine have been inactive since months. Maybe they're preparing for something big? No one knows...

I wanted to laugh seeing the title, if youtube was hacked, then why don't this hacker report the security bug and earn handful of money Actually people will get scared seeing the title of this thread, people should realize youtube account was hacked due to the mishandling by the a/c holder.

@LittleMaster,
I agree with your point, but maybe the "HACKER" wanted to show that he is something different etc.

My friend got 7000$ by reporting a security bug in google.
